On 13th October 2012 thirty cyclists left Axminster in Devon and rode 769 miles to the Slow Food Salone del Gusto festival in Turin, Italy, in memory of Philippa Corbin. We rode to raise awareness of depression and raise funds for two charities.

Day 9 – La Clayette to Saint Sorlin Sur Bugey (70 Miles)

Specialities: Quenelles, Poultry  (Bresse)

This morning the route is hilly, the hilliest so far (a few hair pins)…  it seems as the hills grow so do does the cyclists confidence in what they can tackle.  Now, a mere 50 miles seems quite doable on the quiet country roads in France.  The demanding ride though will be outweighed by the scenic, panoramic views whilst cycling through the mountain villages (good training for The Alps). A coffee stop planned at Monsols.

But the afternoon will be easier on the legs (phew) as the route levels out  to take the cyclists through the flatlands of the  ‘Dombes’ in the Ain district, where we’ll catch our first sight of The Alps and will quietly begin to contemplate the challenge that lays ahead.   Lots and lots of fresh water lakes here full of fish – will Gav have his fishing rod with him?  And  I have no doubt, in true Pip style, there’ll be wild swimming here to end another day of our journey to Turin.
