On 13th October 2012 thirty cyclists left Axminster in Devon and rode 769 miles to the Slow Food Salone del Gusto festival in Turin, Italy, in memory of Philippa Corbin. We rode to raise awareness of depression and raise funds for two charities.

Day 5 – Marolles Les Braults to Beaugency (84 Miles)

Specialities :  The Garden of France… say no more.  Andouillettes, goat’s cheese, Tarte Tatin. The wines: Vouvray, Chinon, Bourgeil…. and more……

A long day today! Our destination Beaugency  on The Loire.  Weather not looking great today but after another great meal cooked by Nonie last night:  local, pork, puy lentils, roasted carrots,  plus loads of gorgeous OEA nuts and olives at aperitif time (1700-1900H so, we hope the Team SRTT are well fuelled to start the day to speedily pedal toward Loire – land of castle and kings.  Two refresher stops today.  Boulangerie opens at 7am – must go and get some crusty bagettes, croissants ….. and get the coffee on.

Heavy rain, a dismal morning was very much cheered up by several bags of freshly baked croissants (chocolate, almond, pain au raison) which were wolfed down in the village bar (well steamed up) at Montmirail – a happy time for everyone.

A welcome lunch stop on this long day at the pretty town of Cloyes.  Steaming soup, hot tea, crusty bagettes, cheese and lovely things  fuelled everyone up  for the afternoon to get the SRTT Team to Beaugency.
