On 13th October 2012 thirty cyclists left Axminster in Devon and rode 769 miles to the Slow Food Salone del Gusto festival in Turin, Italy, in memory of Philippa Corbin. We rode to raise awareness of depression and raise funds for two charities.

Day 3 – St. Malo to Gorron (64 miles)

Specialities:  Camembert and Calvados…ooohh!

Leaving St. Malo the route swings eastwards to pick up the Normandy coastline where it clings to the ocean edge passing through small fishing villages; a coastal area celebrated for its shellfish.  Perhaps time for a fresh oyster or two…..?!  The route then heads in a SW direction passing through the small country town of Pontsoron.  The countryside today is gentle: farmland, cider-orchards, rural villages and Camembert and Calvados country.

Food and Recipes

Five fab’ farm chickens fed us tonight. And what a kitchen at Gorron for Nonie with David to prepare our first French feast. We started with mussels (from Bay le Mont St Michel)  cooked in cider, then the flavourful chicken which Nonie served with creamiest of celeriac, crunchy golden potatoes and crispy green cabbage.  French Tarts for Pud’.  It was glorious!  Thank-you Nonie and David.
