On 13th October 2012 thirty cyclists left Axminster in Devon and rode 769 miles to the Slow Food Salone del Gusto festival in Turin, Italy, in memory of Philippa Corbin. We rode to raise awareness of depression and raise funds for two charities.

Day 12 – Saint Michel to Lanslebourg (25 Miles)

Savoie Region of Rhone-Alps

Specialities:  warming foods of the Savoyade: cheeses, sausages, chestnuts

The Shortest Day – 25 miles with 816m ascent (gulp).  But it now seems this is not enough for a many of the cyclists and plans were  made last night to go ‘off piste’ and bag another summit this morning – this Alpine air seems addictive, must be all those great lunches we prepare for them!  By the way, a fab breakfast here at bright and spacious Le Marintan, St. Michel.

Yesterday everywhere was simply beautiful: the bluest of skies, the sleepyiest of villages, the golden vines, the vividest of Autumn leaves and host of yellow sunflowers.  As Callum said, “It seemed the day had been prepared for us.”  Weather like an Indian Summer, yet last weekend there was snow on the pass and snow is  forecast again for Friday.  So fingers crossed it’ll not arrive early.  I think everyone feels Pip is pushing us up those hill.

It’s Geoff  Tattershall’s birthday and so I guess there’ll be a few stops along the route today.  We hope a Gabriel (Luscombe Drinks) and his lovely wife Venetia are going to drop by and join us for one of those amazing Pop Up lunches under the yellow gazebo.

And there is a Sauna at the end and a welcome form Madam Gagniere of the Beautiful Mountains.
