Welcome!

On 13th October 2012 thirty cyclists left Axminster in Devon and rode 769 miles to the Slow Food Salone del Gusto festival in Turin, Italy, in memory of Philippa Corbin. We rode to raise awareness of depression and raise funds for two charities.

Day 1 – Axminster to Swanage (61 Miles)

via Marshwood Vale, Loders, Little Bredy, Hardy’s Monument, Winterbourne Herrrinstone, West Stafford, Wool, West Holme, Corfe Castle…Swanage.

The journey starts today!  We kick start the day with a hearty breakfast at The River Cottage Canteen, Axminster: the best  bacon from Denhay Farms, sizzling sausages from Higher Hacknell Farm, gorgeous Guernsey yoghurt from Brown Cow organics plus tea, coffee juice and lashings of Thursday Cottage’s marmalades and jams. A feast to celebrate the start of this unique and special journey to Turin.

Where Devon meets Dorset is hilly and the first 30 miles will throw in a few ups and downs for the cyclists.  Relief will be in sight at ‘high spot’ Hardy’s Monument (800 feet above sea-level) where it seems the whole of beautiful Dorset can be seen below. From here on the countryside changes to the flatter, chalky  plains of Dorset making it a bit easier for the cyclists.

  • Refresher stop 1 - east side of A 3066 Bridport/Beaminster Road
  • Lunch  - Little Bredy – tranquil spot by Church of St. Michaels and All Angels
  • Refresher stop 2 – Moreton Village Hall car park
