On 13th October 2012 thirty cyclists left Axminster in Devon and rode 769 miles to the Slow Food Salone del Gusto festival in Turin, Italy, in memory of Philippa Corbin. We rode to raise awareness of depression and raise funds for two charities.

Need to talk?

Thank you for allowing us to support you and to be part of your journey.

No one who has seen or read the reports can fail to have been moved by Phillipa’s story and by the Corbin family and friends celebration of her life. Miles Daffin of The Human Givens Foundation wrote that Depression will soon become the second major global  cause of death and disability. As Samaritans we are already aware that here in the UK, depression takes the the lives of more people than die in road accidents. As Miles says it is vital that the condition is brought into the open and that sufferers are aware that there is help available and that there is ALWAYS someone to talk to.

Samaritans are available, as the Americans say, 24/7.  24 hours a day, 7 days a week your phone call, email or text will be answered. We are always here, round the clock, every single day of the year. We offer a safe place to be yourself whoever you are. We will not tell you what to do or judge you. As volunteers we are ordinary people who keep what you say between us. We believe that giving people time, undivided attention and empathy meets a fundamental emotional need and reduces distress and despair. I suppose the general concept is that we’re the ‘suicide people’. Yes we will explore suicidal feelings with you, but whoever you are, however you feel, whatever life has done to you, whether you are suicidal, have been affected by suicide or if things are just getting to you – talk to us.
